We’re having a wonderful year at Baldwin—thanks to our teachers, parents, and great students.  I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving holiday.  I know I enjoyed spending time with extended family and, of course, my grandchildren. We’re really busy with our concert season.  Our Choral Department put on a tremendous performance for students during school hours and for parents and the public on November 28.  Next, our piano students’ recital was amazing on November 30.  To experience each of those students on the stage playing individually was exciting.  I tell people all of the time that if you want to build self-confidence in students just put them on a stage.  This week we had the strings performance on December 6.  It was obvious that these students had worked so hard because the music was beautiful.  Next up is our band performance on December 7, along with the combined dance and guitar performance on December 14.  Both concerts will begin at 7:00 P.M.  If you can attend, please do.  You’ll be thoroughly entertained.  The last day of the quarter is December 15.  We’ll send report cards home on January 11 after we return. If your eighth grader is planning to apply to a magnet high school that is not his or her feeder high school (arts students—BTW and academics students—Lamp), please check the MPS website for the dates for applications.  We’re hoping to have the magnet high school principals come to PTSA at Baldwin on the January 18.  If that date changes, I’ll let you know in advance.  We’ll also take our eighth graders to visit the magnet high schools (January 10 to BrewTech, January 11 to Lamp, and January 23 to BTW).  If you have younger students in elementary school applying to a magnet middle school, I’ve invited the principals for Carr Magnet and Floyd Magnet to join me at Baldwin at 6:00 P.M. on January 11 for a Magnet Middle School Information Night.   I’m sure that everyone is looking forward to our winter holiday.  Our last day of school is Friday, December 15. Students return to school on Wednesday, January 3.  Please remember that if you need an early checkout or you’ll return later than January 3, you’ll need to send a prior approval note to the office a few days early.  It’s alright to just write that note (no special form is needed) and have your student bring it to the office for my signature. My hope is that everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Jannette Wright, Principal
